From the team strategy in qualifying to the race, car 55, the Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz Jr, again proved himself worthy in the red car, in what was undoubtedly an underrated performance.
After starting from the back of the grid, and later ending up in P8, he undoubtedly deserved to be the driver of the day.
The Ferrari driver started P19 after McLaren announced that they would treplace four components on their Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo’s car, resulting in him starting from P20.
The Spaniard charged through the field to get to P12 on what was just the eighth lap, although there was slight contact with the German Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel during their debacle lap 14. Luckily, there was no big damage affecting the car and performance, giving him the upperhand in over the German.
He continued to storm through the race, despite his slow pit stop, he was able to pass Ocon.
One of the highlighted overtakes from the driver at the race was probably when he got wheel to wheel with the Williams driver George Russell. At turn 12, the Williams was ahead of the Ferrari, and they later went wheel to wheel around turn 13, bringing Sainz ahead of Russell in what was a heart stopping move.
After his podium in Sochi, Carlos again brought a wonderful performance and valuable points into his pocket. It certainly filled me with wonder and excitement for his future performance with his future in the bright red car.
